I haven't had an ear infection since grade school. Judging by the unpleasant sucking and clicking sounds my left ear is making, I seem to have one now. Either that, or there's a lamprey in my ear.

Last time that happened to me I went completely deaf in that ear, and had to have surgery to correct it!

Aww gawd, I don't miss those ear infections I used to get as a kiddo either.

(I do remember the miracles of hot compresses and diluted hydrogen peroxide squeegies in the ears vividly, though. Whee!)

IIRC the "eels in ear" noises can also be caused by wax buildup, but you've probably already ruled that out.

Yeah, I went after it with one of those plastic loops that has a wide base on it so that people can get wax out of their ears without puncturing the eardrum, and no love. The ear canal feels swollen and tender.

I got this same thing about a week ago-- crackling when swallowing, and it's gone now, strangely. It seemed to go away at the same time my stress levels subsided.

Ooooh I sympathize so much with you right now!!! I had an ear infection a few months back, and it was horrible! Have you gone to an ear/nose/throat doctor yet?
