Ends and beginnings

me!
Despite all the stress and hassle that was 2004, a number of things happened in the last couple of days which push it firmly onto the "good year" side of the scale for me: I reconciled with John, I had a wonderfully relaxing trip home and got lots of good code written, and MacGyver is finally coming out on DVD.

I spent New Year's Eve in Columbia, MO with [info]deifire, [info]sunpup, [info]vily, and the cats, Frey and Freyja (who really are Odin's brother and sister). We went out to dinner, wandered around town a bit, hung about the house and listened to silly MP3s, then headed back downtown to a coffee bar that had great live Irish music, joined a parade that was heading in the direction of [info]deifire's place, and got back home at about twelve minutes to midnight. We pointed her iMac's browser at www.time.gov, poured champagne, and figured out New Year's resolutions while keeping glued to the screen. We started counting down at 23:59:18 (journalpoint to the first person to point out why), cheered, and drank up. The first suggestion for a toast ("Fuck, I hate this time pressure shit") was discarded in favour of something much simpler and all-encompassing: "Here's to what's coming." Then we watched fireworks and were accosted for directions by a very drunk lady. The evening was rounded out with anime music videos and short zombie movies on my laptop, then the Buffy episode "Once More, With Feeling." And then everyone went to sleep, and no one has a hangover.

My resolution? "Keep climbing." I figure that sums up all the more specific things I could say.

Happy 2005, everyone. Here's to what's coming!
