maradydd: So apparently I've had a Secret clearance for over a year now and the army just kinda never got around to mentioning it. martian_bob: Well ... it was a secret.
My dad was in communications in the Army. Therefore he had to have very high secret clearances. In fact, some of his clearance levels were so high, that even the names of said clearances were a secret. o.O
There is a severe shortage of people with clearances, so much so that it is currently running about 2 years (I think) to get one, and in the non-military sector you can't apply for one until you are working on a project that requires it... but companies can't get such projects unless they already have clearance (make sense? didn't think so)
As a result, I've read of a backlog of something like 180,000+ people going through the process for clearance at the moment. You may want to talk with both you unit and your work about your clearance to see what (if anything) you'll have to do to keep in up - it is a seriously valuable commodity in today's job market.
(this is Shannon btw, don't have a livejournal account)
